This has been driving me crazy…

Why? Take a closer look…

Can't open the front door
We love this portable washer that was handed down to us, but hate that the only place we could put it out of the way, wasn’t really out of the way since we could only partially open our front door.
I am so glad we decided to use the ELFA system to organize the adjacent closet earlier in the year because it meant we could move everything around and make room for the washer in the closet.
We went from this…

To this…

And the small suitcases we use most frequently are hiding way up top…

While I did love the way I had organized the closet previously, we have really come to rely on our portable washer and it needed a home. Many of the things in this closet were used only a couple times a year. I’ll let you know where they ended up soon.
Here’s all it took to totally change the function of this closet:
- Remove hanging rod from bottom shelf
- Raise upper shelf and attach hanging rod
- Lower bottom shelf to just above the washer
It was so easy because the shelves just hook into a track on the back wall of the closet…

(I didn’t bother repainting because you can’t see the wall once the closet is full anyway, that project is on my “someday” list.)
So, like I said, thank goodness for ELFA!
Don’t forget to check out what everyone else is organizing over at OrgJunkie!

I don’t know what we’d do without our washer now that we have a kid…she makes a lot of laundry! I never thought of hanging purses and bags on a hanger…that gives me some ideas! Thanks!
I am always impressed with how you organize stuff. We live in the Finger Lakes area of NY and live in a big ol’ country farmhouse (2300 sq ft) and to see what you can do with a little apartment is amazing.
Love the closet!
I love that closet system. We’ve never had a fancy closet, but it’s definitely on my list for when we get our own house.
